For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.’ (Ephesians 2:8-10).

Derek Boocock

Round the World Cyclist

In October 2012 after being told his cancer had returned and given just 12 months to live, Derek sold and gave away all his possessions to embark upon a solo (and unsupported)  trip around the world by bicycle. Over 2 years later and he has visited 37 countries, 4 continents and cycled over 37,000 km’s. The trip was more than just a personal pilgrimage, as after losing his wife in very tragic circumstances to cancer in 2009, he also lost his faith. Dealing with depression and searching for answers, he attempted to find it again…

That he is here at all defies everything the doctors prescribed, but his story is about much more than that. Along the way he finally found love again and more importantly, the love of our Christ. If you don’t believe in miracles, come talk to Derek.

Looking to settle here in Groningen, Derek is actively seeking employment. As an award winning photographer, he is available for weddings and portraits (at a much reduced rate for church members) and is very skilled in web design (he built this website) and all things IT related. He is also an extremely proficient Outdoor Pursuits Instructor.

Website links to his full portfolio will be placed here shortly. In the meantime here’s his Flickr page
