For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.’ (Ephesians 2:8-10).

Grace Church Service of the Word (17th Sunday after Trinity)

This Sunday we gather for Service of the Word at 10:30, so we can meet, pray, reflect, sing and rejoice together!

Our first reading is from Paul’s second letter to Timothy (2 Timothy 2:8-15), where he speaks of how the Lord’s wonderful salvific power has seen him through his own difficulties. Even though Paul had been in chains, the Word of God is unchained, he notes. Through God’s work in His Son and the Spirit and the promise of the Word, we have new life.

The Gospel reading is from Luke 17:11-19, when Jesus heals ten people suffering from leprosy, and yet the one Samaritan among them who was healed comes back to thank Jesus, who is also thankful, but is also surprised that it was an outsider who returned to him. This is yet another example of how Jesus crossed borderlines to help people, but is delighted that others welcomed and celebrated faith in Him, too.

So this a good time to be thankful, and also remember that we are to remind others we all need to be thankful for God’s guidance and care.

We look forward to welcoming and worshipping with you!

We will also offer an activity for our youngest members, and will share fellowship with coffee, tea, etc. after the service.

Blessings and until soon!
