For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.’ (Ephesians 2:8-10).

Cycling to Midwolde

Our first Sunday afternoon ride took us to the 12th century church of Midwolde, (access was granted to look inside) about 15 km from the city centre of Groningen. We also visited the nearby 13th century church of Lettelbert. After visiting the churches, our route took us in a loop back to Groningen, through the beautiful park of Nienoord in Leek, for which entry was still free this weekend, and through the Onlanden, a special landscape in Groningen’s backyard.
The total distance of the route was 32 kilometres, so we made sure to take something to drink, a snack, and – given the fact that we’re living in the beautiful Netherlands – rainclothes, which I’m happy to report were not needed.
