For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.’ (Ephesians 2:8-10).

Reading Group: Heidelberg Catechism

This session we’ll discuss Lord’s Days 17-20, along with DeYoung’s reflections on the catechism chapters. Reading from The Good News we Almost Forgot is highly encouraged, but if you don’t have the book (yet), the Heidelberg Catechism is publicly available in plenty of formats on the Internet. This is an English version with complete Scripture references (PDF).

About this reading group series:

This year we’ll read through the Heidelberg Catechism, a summary of the Gospel and of Christian beliefs that has been used by protestants for almost 5 centuries. We’ll cover 4 chapters (or “Lord’s Days”) every 3 weeks, but also read the reflections author and pastor Kevin DeYoung wrote for his local church bulletin.

All in all, the total number of pages to read will be about 16 pages per 3 weeks, divided into 4 short chapters. You can buy the book at several shops: Boekhandel Riemer (Groningen), Book Depository (UK), Bol.com (NL), Amazon (DE)
