For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.’ (Ephesians 2:8-10).

Grace Church Service of the Word (Last Sunday before Lent)

This coming Sunday we gather for our Service of the Word on this Last Sunday before the prayerful and focused season of Lent.

And for this Sunday of the year, we always remember the extraordinary experience of the Transfiguration of Jesus (this time from Mark 9:2-9).

This moment is such a fitting conclusion to the Epiphany season of revelations, as, just after Jesus first lets his disciples know of his expected death and that they too must follow the Way of the Cross, Jesus is glorified in their presence, with Moses and Elijah also there, miraculously. A very meaningful manifestation, which also shows how God, through Christ, lets light shine out of darkness, as St Paul writes in our other reading (2 Corinthians 4:3-6). Though God’s mission of humbling salvation seems ‘veiled’ and is difficult for us to comprehend sometimes, he wants to show us the way nonetheless. Heartening passages for us.

We look forward to welcoming you and sharing in worship with you. And, as always, we will also offer an activity for youngsters during the service, and coffee and tea for warm fellowship afterwards. See you soon!
